Carrie and Matt Wagner are the married duo behind dream-pop outfit Silver Liz, along with Matt’s drummer cousin, Mark Hunsberger. After last year’s first two singles, the trio has kicked off the year with One and Twenty.
Based in Chicago, Silver Liz began in late 2016 as a bedroom project, but with a full-length album due for later this year, One and Twenty is more polished and refined. “Someone told you/ ‘don’t be giving your love away’/ but you gave and gave and you have nothing to gain,” begins a vulnerable Carrie to a steady beat before Matt takes over vocal responsibilities. Ethereal “ooo’s” bemoan beneath a rapture of saturated yet glimmering guitars that propel this dreamscape dusted with cerulean vapors into gritty territory.
